Product Description
IR (Infrared) Filter for Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror Sensor
Our IR (Infrared) Filter is designed to solve the issue of infrared light emitted from the Comma device, which interferes with the auto dimming functionality of your rearview mirror. At night, the infrared light used by the Comma device to detect the driver's face can confuse the dimming sensor, affecting its functionality. This IR filter helps block the infrared light, ensuring your auto dimming rearview mirror functions smoothly without disruptions.
Key Features:
Customizable Fit: The filter comes with 4 pre-applied VHB tape pads, which can be placed around your rearview mirror's auto dimming sensor. Depending on the angle and location of the sensor, you can choose to use 1-4 pads.
Universal Compatibility: This IR filter is designed to work with any rearview mirror with auto dimming functionality.
Easy to Install: Simply apply the filter to your rearview mirror sensor. If certain VHB tape pads are not needed, simply cut them off for a clean fit.
Improved Dimming Sensor Performance: By blocking infrared light emitted from the Comma device, this filter prevents interference, ensuring the auto dimming feature works smoothly without interference.
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Locate the Auto-Dimming Sensor(s)
First, you need to identify where the light sensors are located on your specific rearview mirror.
Front-Facing Sensor (Cabin Side): Most vehicles have a small square or circular sensor on the glass side of the mirror, usually located near the bottom center or bottom edge. This is the sensor most commonly affected by the Comma device.
Refer to the reference image below to see examples of where these sensors are typically located.

Step 2: Clean the Sensor Area
For the adhesive to bond properly, the surface must be completely clean.
Take a microfiber cloth and a mild glass cleaner (or a standard alcohol wipe).
Gently wipe the sensor and the immediately surrounding plastic/glass.
Allow the area to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
Step 3: Peel the VHB Tape Pad
Carefully peel the protective backing off the VHB tape pad.
Try to handle the filter by the edges to avoid getting dirt or oils on the adhesive side.
⚠️ Important: Make sure you are peeling the protective liner off the VHB tape pad, not the sticker on the actual filter itself!
Pro-Tip for Peeling: If you do not have tweezers handy, first press down firmly on the pad. This ensures the bottom adhesive is fully stuck to the surface. Then, use the side of your fingernail to gently flick or roll the very edge of the top liner until it lifts.
Step 4: Trim Unused Pads
Depending on your mirror's layout, you might not need all the adhesive points. If any VHB tape pads are not required for your specific sensor, simply cut them off to ensure a proper fit.
Step 5: Test Your Setup (Optional)
To verify the installation, you can take a drive at night with your Comma device powered on. Your rearview mirror should no longer stay permanently dimmed and will only darken when a car with bright headlights is actually behind you.
