Product Description

CPL Filter Set for Comma Devices

Reduce Glare. Improve Vision. Enhance Model Performance.

Suitable for C3, C3X, and C4

#Update: Please DO NOT use CPL filter if you have ceramic tint.

Upgrade your Comma 3 or Comma 3X with this custom CPL (Circular Polarizing Lens) filter set — designed to reduce windshield glare and interior reflections that can interfere with OpenPilot’s camera vision, especially during bright, sunny drives.

Key Features:

  • 🔧 Perfect Fit – Custom-sized CPL filters for both cameras on your Comma 3 / 3X.

  • ☀️ Minimize Reflections – Cut down windshield glare and dashboard reflections that can interfere with ML performance.

  • 🔍 Tested with OpenPilot – Carefully tested to confirm: the CPL filters do not block any part of the image used by OpenPilot’s ML model.

  • 🧲 Easy Installation – Comes with pre-applied VHB tape and alignment stickers. No additional tools needed.

What’s in the box:

  • 2x CPL Filters (Main cam + Wide cam)

  • Pre-applied adhesive rings (VHB)

  • Alignment aid stickers

Reducing Dashboard Glare Example

Why you need a CPL Filter: Sunlight reflecting off your dashboard can create a "ghost image" on your windshield, which can confuse vision-based systems and degrade video quality.

The Test: - The Flower: Represents a vehicle or object on the road. - The Books: Represent the dashboard reflecting in the glass.

Results: As seen in the comparison photos, the Beartech CPL Filter eliminates the distracting reflection of the dashboard (the books) while keeping the road ahead (the flower) perfectly clear. This ensures your Openpilot hardware has the cleanest possible "eye" on the road, especially in high-glare conditions like mid-day sun or driving toward the sunset.

Why CPL Filters Matter for Comma Devices:

CPL (Circular Polarizing Lens) filters work by blocking polarized light—the kind often caused by reflections on glass surfaces like your windshield. These reflections can confuse vision-based systems like OpenPilot, especially when they obscure key features like lane lines or nearby vehicles.

By adding a CPL filter, you're giving your Comma device a cleaner, clearer view of the road ahead. This results in better model confidence, especially in high-sun or high-glare conditions.

Still Worried About View Obstruction?

We've done extensive testing.

In the image above, you’ll see:

  • 🟩 Green box = the actual camera feed used by OpenPilot

  • 🔴 Red circle = the view available after applying the CPL filter.

As shown, the area used by openpilot is completely unobstructed. You get the benefit of glare reduction without compromising vision or safety.

Compatibility:

  • ✅ Comma 3

  • ✅ Comma 3X (Might support other community devices)

Installation Guide

Step 1: Match the Filters

  • Start by identifying which CPL filter goes to which camera lens on your Comma device (one is for the wide-angle lens, and the other is for the narrow main lens).

Step 2: The "Test Fit"

  • Take one of the clear alignment stickers and attach it to the edge of the CPL filter.

  • Use the other half of the sticker to lightly tack the filter onto the front of the Comma device so it covers the camera lens. It should be secure enough to stay on, but loose enough that you can still rotate the filter.

Step 3: Find the Correct Angle

  • Turn on your Comma device and look at the camera feed on the screen.

  • Slowly rotate the CPL filter. Keep an eye on the dashboard glare in the video feed. Stop rotating the moment the reflection completely disappears. You have now found the perfect angle!

Step 4: Peel the VHB Tape

  • Carefully remove the filter without losing its angle.

  • ⚠️ Important: Make sure you are peeling the protective liner off the VHB tape pad, not the sticker on the actual filter itself.

  • Pro-Tip: If you don't have tweezers, press down firmly on the VHB pad first to ensure the bottom adhesive is fully stuck to the filter. Then, use the side of your fingernail to gently roll the very edge of the top liner until it lifts.

Step 5: Final Installation

  • Carefully align the CPL filter back over the camera lens at the correct angle you found in Step 3. Press down firmly to secure the VHB tape to the device.

Step 6: Repeat

  • Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for the second camera lens.
